For Earth Day 2025, UKL has partnered with the Circular Taiwan Network to launch the “CC4CC Climate Change Circular T-Shirt” at the Earth Solutions event. Made from pineapple leaf fiber (PALF), this T-shirt integrates low-carbon materials with a barcode design reflecting Taiwan’s temperature trends, aiming to promote sustainability and raise awareness of the climate crisis.

From Agricultural Waste to Sustainable Fashion: PALF Pineapple Leaf Fiber

This T-shirt uses PALF technology certified by the United Nations, combining cotton and biodegradable polyester. Each shirt reduces CO2e emissions by 0.58 kg—cutting its carbon footprint by 50% compared to conventional cotton products. This initiative embodies the spirit of the Collaborative Circular for Climate Crisis (CC4CC) movement.

Gary Hsieh, Executive Vice President of UKL, said, “This T-shirt is both a response to the climate crisis and a symbol of hope for the future. We sincerely invite more organizations to join the CC4CC movement and take action toward a sustainable future.”For every T-shirt sold, UKL will donate NT$50 to support climate education, encouraging everyone to join the movement. More details can be found on the EVOPURE+ brand website.

Temperature Barcode Design: A Visual Climate Wake-Up Call for Taiwan

The “ShowYourStripes” pattern on the T-shirt is based on climate scientist Ed Hawkins’ global climate visualization project, using blue-to-red stripes to show temperature changes over time. UKL applied Taiwan’s temperature data from 1850 to 2023, highlighting the significant warming trend over the past 50 years, especially post-industrialization. This design serves as a local reminder of the climate crisis, echoing CC4CC’s call: “If not Circular, WHAT?”—if we don’t act circularly, what solutions do we have left?

The T-shirt has garnered support from organizations such as 5% Design Action, Circular Taiwan Network, and Friendly Seed, and has been widely used at sustainability events, demonstrating the power of cross-sector collaboration.

At this year’s Earth Solutions Annual Conference, the launch of Sustainability Textbook SELECT 2025 marked Taiwan’s first compilation of corporate sustainability case studies as teaching resources. Co-created by Earth Solutions, 5% Design Action, and various partners, the textbook covers 10 key sustainability topics—including green energy and circular economy—aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). UKL’s PALF case was included as a circular economy model, connecting “agriculture × textiles × education” to showcase local circular practices.

UKL actively collaborates with schools, particularly through the “Sustainability Textbook Industry-Academia Matchmaking Platform,” encouraging schools to share best practices in sustainability education and providing teacher training programs to help embed sustainability concepts into daily teaching.
